What is CBD Oil?
Short for Cannabidiol, CBD is a liquid extract that’s derived from cannabis plants.
While named after a single compound called a cannabinoid, most CBD products contain a range of beneficial compounds. This includes over 100 different cannabinoids along with hundreds of different terpenes, which gives plants their aroma.
The CBD oil your dog takes is no different than the one you take or the one you give to cats. However, you’ll find it in varying concentrations to account for the weight difference.
How Does CBD Oil Work?
CBD oil works by supplementing your dog's endocannabinoid system. This system, also known as the ECS system, is responsible for regulating your dog's mood, pain levels, inflammation, appetite, immunity, sleep cycle, and more! Taking CBD botanical extract stimulates your dog's ECS receptors, bringing your dog's system into equilibrium.
The compounds in CBD act like neurotransmitters the body produces and attach to regulatory receptors found on cells.
When these receptors are activated, cells undergo homeostasis. This process helps the body balance it’s inner workings and recalibrates it.
However, CBD goes above and beyond vanilla and chili peppers because instead of there just being one compound, there are hundreds in CBD. This allows CBD to activate several different types of regulatory receptors.
Also, CBD can boost a type of neurotransmitter called an endocannabinoid that runs the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The endocannabinoid system brings balance to many of the body’s regulatory systems and functions. This includes immunity, sleep, mood, digestion, and cellular regulation.
Does CBD Get You High? Is CBD Legal?
Because CBD comes from cannabis, people often wonder if it can cause a high or if it’s legal. The wonderful news is when CBD is derived from hemp, it cannot cause a high, and it is legal in the United States under the 2018 Farm Bill and over 40 countries worldwide.
So what’s the difference between hemp and marijuana? Let's find out below!
Difference between Marijuana and Hemp
Both hemp and marijuana are species of cannabis plants, and while they have the same cannabinoids and terpenes, they have them in very different ratios.
In particular, hemp contains very low amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), where marijuana contains a lot of it. High levels of THC results in the high associated with marijuana.
Hemp is already naturally low in THC, and we can reduce it even more with basic farming practices giving us industrial hemp.
Marijuana has around 20-30 % THC vs. industrial hemp 0.01-0.3% THC. That means marijuana has one hundred to a thousand times more THC than hemp, and this makes all the difference.
Fun Fact: You don’t have to worry about your CBD product when it contains no more than 0.3% THC. In fact, that tiny little bit actually contributes to some big therapeutic benefits, especially for epilepsy.
Alternatives to CBD Oil for Dogs
Most dogs like CBD’s grassy and nutty flavor, but not always. As well, sometimes administering an oil isn’t always easy.
As well, there is our heal.protect.wag Balm that’s great for targeting joint & muscle pain along with healing and soothing damaged & dry skin. Topicals allow you to focus all on CBD power directly on the spot that needs help.
Because CBD has been shown to improve health benefits, small dosages work well in daily multivitamins and add a crucial element to botanical extracts designed to help with digestion, mobility, and skin & coat health. (9)
A lot of our customers like stacking multiple CBD products together, and this is a brilliant way to care for your dog’s health. Just make sure to always calculate how much you’re giving. We help with that down below!
Is There A Difference In Hemp Oil And CBD Oil?
Hemp is a complex plant that offers a wealth of benefits from the stalks used for fiber to the seeds used in skincare moisturizers. But this makes things a bit confusing, so let’s clear it up.
Hemp oil, often called hemp seed oil, is not hemp CBD, which is sometimes called hemp extract.
You will frequently see hemp seed oil in CBD oil because it makes a great carrier oil with its beneficial fats, which include omega fatty acids.
Hemp seed oil comes from cold pressing the seeds to extract oil while CBD comes from the resin found on the flowers and leaves.
It’s important to know the difference as shady companies will market hemp seed oil as CBD oil by simply calling it “hemp oil” and saying it has anti-anxiety and anti-seizure benefits. It doesn’t.
Hemp seed oil is wonderful for health as the omega fatty acids help with immunity and heart health. As well, hemp seeds are a good source of protein. However, it doesn’t have anywhere near as many benefits as CBD.
How CBD Has Changed the Way We Look At Pet HealthIt’s pretty amazing how much healing and protective power is within a drop of CBD oil.
More and more people are using CBD for themselves and their pets to help with issues far-and-wide. CBD is being investigated all over the world for many uses. However at this time, as the manufacturer of CBD products, we are not allowed to discuss that subject directly nor are we allowed to imply that CBD can be used for any specific treatment. However we are allowed to tell you about ongoing research being done by UC Davis including: anxiety, epilepsy, pain, digestive health, and inflammatory conditions such as arthritis. But this merely scratches the surface as to why CBD is praise by both lovers of natural health and the medical community.
With CBD’s sudden craze in popularity, has come a lot of misinformation from what it is to what it can do. We invite you to join us as we unearth the truth about CBD.
Our PurCBD Oil:

CBD is being investigated all over the world for many uses. However at this time, as the manufacturer of CBD products, we are not allowed to discuss that subject publicly nor we are not allowed to imply that CBD can be used for any specific treatment.
Full Spectrum and The Entourage Effect
The terpenes and phytocannabinoids interact with each other just as much as they do with endocannabinoids in the body. They often give each other a helping hand.
For example, the single compound version of cannabidiol (CBD) has a hard time passing the blood-brain barrier for absorption, and its effects are stunted.
This happens because it relies on some of the other phytocannabinoids and terpenes who help pass CBD through where it can then interact with receptors.
We call this the entourage effect, and this synergy magnifies potency, gives you the largest range of medical issues hemp can help with and makes dosing simpler.

Due to the influence of big pharma, the FDA has refused (until recently) to investigate the benefits of phytocannabinoid oil for humans or pets. We are not allowed to say or imply that phytocannabinoid has any medical benefits, however the 1st Amendment also protects our right to tell you about our experiences with phytocannabinoid helping our own pets, and the fact that there have been more than 1500 clinical studies regarding the effectiveness of phytocannabinoids. The owners and staff of Innovet believe, but cannot legally claim or imply, that countless dogs and cats have used phytocannabinoid oils for many conditions.
CBD For Inflammatory Conditions
Poorly regulated Inflammation is at the core of many diseases. You see it in arthritis, allergies, cancers, and it can even affect mental health. This is why CBD may help maintain the healthy structure of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) which governs inflammatory response.
- Research shows CBD is comparable to common NSAIDs without the serious side effects
- The ECS, however, may play a role in regulating the inflammation response within the body.
CBD For Pain Relief
Above we saw that the ECS may help support many essential functions of the body and maintain a natural and healthy balance, but that’s not the only way CBD can help our dogs feel better. CBD may interact with your pets ECS to help maintain your dog's nervous system by giving it direct access to support pain.
- Pure Green's ongoing clinical trial "Osteoarthritis of the Knee Pain Study Using a CBD and THC Sublingual Tablet," have reason to believe CBD may help support pain.
- Helps avoid pain meds that carry increasingly harsher side effects the longer used
CBD For Anxiety & Nervousness
Dogs give us a run for our money when it comes to who is more nervous. Whether it be loud noises or you just leaving the house, your dog probably struggles with anxiety in some aspect of their life. It’s a good thing that research overwhelmingly shows CBD can help calm occasional anxiousness.
- Helps owners avoid prescription anxiety meds that can affect your dog’s personality
- Great for everyday help with chronic anxiety and situational anxiety like storms
CBD For Epilepsy
It was the desperate search for a treatment to an incurable form of childhood epilepsy, like dravet syndrome, that first allowed CBD to come to light in the first place. Eventually, parents of these children discovered the entourage of CBD with other cannabinoids and terpenes in cannabis have the unique ability to help in many ways. However until recently, cannabis had very low % of CBD and a very high % of THC, so any CBD came at the cost of a THC "high" which is too dangerous for kids and pets. Special strains of cannabis with high CBD % and under 0.3% THC changed all of that. These specials strains are now referred to as hemp. Enough people began to see anecdotal evidence of CBD reducing seizures in these children and so official clinical studies were formed. These clinical studies led the FDA to give approval for one pharmaceutical company (Innovet has no affiliation with any pharmaceutical company) to produce and market CBD isolate as a drug treatment for multiple seizure conditions. When the FDA announced approval of this one drug they cited primary reasons:
- Isolated CBD reduce seizure frequency for rare forms of epilepsy
- Isolated CBD has mild side effects
Many studies have shown similarities between the interaction of CBD on the endocannabinoid system for cats and dogs. For more information you can go to our scientific research library.
CBD Oil For Dogs’ Overall Health
Whether you’re looking to help an older pup’s mobility, or just want to keep them in tip-top shape, CBD is here to help.
By supporting better regulatory health throughout the body, giving your dog CBD for their daily health rivals anything else you can do for it. Plus, it’s super easy, quick, and affordable to give.
Common Methods of Administering1. Apply the drops using our Dial-A-Dose 10cc hand-feeding syringe with silicone feeding tip. We make the dropper with plastic instead of glass just in case your pet bites down.
2. Apply the drops directly to the middle of the tongue or back of the cheek/gum line.
3. Apply the drops to a treat or meal.
4. Apply the drops to the water bowl (use this as a last resort because the oil drop could get splashed out of the bowl).
How Much CBD Oil Should I Give My Pet?The quickest way to find out how much CBD you should give your dog is our CBD Dosage Calculator. Simply input your dog’s weight along with the total amount of CBD there is in the product, and you’re set.
There is no unsafe amount of CBD you can give, and you can administer however many times you need in a day. Most owners give their dogs CBD one to three times a day.
We break CBD dosages into three tiers based on the dog’s weight, and each has its advantages:
LOW TIER (0.022 mg/lb or 0.05mg/kg):
If you've never given your dog CBD before, this level is the perfect place to start. It will allow you to introduce CBD into their system and from there you can gradually increase the dosage in order to find the perfect balance. According to clinical studies that were focused on defining effective CBD amounts for anxiety, nausea, and other more severe problems, a higher dosage than this low level might be necessary. We always recommend to start low and work your way up.
AVERAGE TIER (0.204 mg/lb or 0.45 mg/kg):
This level is perfect for those looking to help maintain the natural bodily functions in your dog. When age is starting to come into play it can help put more pep in their step by allowing them to make the most of what they already have.
STRONG TIER (0.567 mg/lb or 1.25 mg/kg):
When serious relief and help is needed, this is the tier for your dog. Most owners won’t give their dog this dose every day, but no worries if you need to. At this dosage level, you may see CBD make your pet a bit tired, but there is no harm in this happening.
How Does CBD Help Dogs?By providing a helping hand to numerous regulatory functions from immunity to appetite to sleep to pain, CBD has endless benefits. Though there are some areas where it helps more than others.
There is no conclusive evidence to support official conclusion however, the FDA has "...continued to support the rigorous scientific medical research of marijuana (cannabis/hemp)-derived products". Ongoing research at universities include the potential uses for conditions such as:
- Pain (e.g., arthritis, bone pain)
- Anxiety (e.g., separation, loud noises, fireworks, travel, crowds)
- Nausea and vomiting
- Loss of appetite
- Seizures, convulsions, and muscle spasms
It may take up to 24-48 hours to see results. Start dosing on the low side of the dosing chart and adjust accordingly. Apply PurCBD oil to food or directly into the mouth via medicine dropper.

Is your product Human Grade?
PurCBD+ uses the most reliable suppliers for phytocannabinoid oil for humans. Everything from the ingredients to the bottle and dropper are human grade. The owners and staff of Innovet use PurCBD on ourselves and our own pets. Our goal has always been to make the product equal or better in every way to its human-use counterparts. However, due to the extra liability involved in marketing the product for human use, officially we are required to say that it’s only for pets.
Why is hemp oil added? Why isn't it 100% concentrated?
Our PurCBD+ oil is diluted to the proper concentration for use with pets. It must be diluted with hemp oil or you would be trying to measure impossibly tiny doses (smaller than a fraction of a single drop). Hemp oil is the perfect carrier oil for PurCBD. Our 30ml bottles contain 125mg of PurCBD per bottle.
Where is it sourced from?
We import the organic hemp-based CBD from Northern Europe, while the hemp carrier oil comes from farms in Oregon. We mix, test, and bottle the product here in the USA.
Why is your product cheaper than other companies?
We source directly from farmers, purchase in large volumes, and own our own manufacturing facility where we don’t have a third party bottle our product for us. We deliver it straight to you and cut out all the middle men.
Why does it say refrigeration is needed?
We recommend refrigeration out of an abundance of caution. Prolonged exposure to sunlight or heat can cause the oil to prematurely spoil. Heat above 160°F will cause the PurCBD+ to breakdown and become ineffective. Refrigeration is the simplest way to ensure the longest possible shelf life. For most people, however, refrigeration isn't needed—it’s just ideal.
Is it for Cats?
Yes, we do have customers who use PurCBD for their cats.
Does it contain pesticides?
No, absolutely not. We source exclusively from 100% organic farms, so this is never an issue. Even though none of our ingredients have ever been exposed to pesticides, we still routinely have our phytocannabinoid oil tested by a third party for potency and the presence of any toxins/pesticides. You can see the results on the certificate of analysis found on our website.
What is your 30-day guarantee policy for return/refund?
Returns are very easy with us. Just mail the unused product to us at our standard address:
Innovet Pet Products
1440 West 178th Street
Gardena, CA 90248
We don't get many returns, so we don't require any forms or documents; just be sure to include something with your name or order number so that we know which order to refund. We offer a 30-day return period for all our products if they are returned to us unopened and unused. Also, for many of our products, such as PurCBD and PurOtic, we offer a 30-day MONEY BACK GUARANTEE even if they are opened and completely used.
Hemp Industry's Statement About Phytocannabinioid Oil:Industrial hemp comes from a variety of the Cannabis Sativa L plant. Our plants have concentration levels of 0.3% or less of delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), as defined by the 2014 Federal Farm Bill. Within the Cannabis Sativa L plant are molecules known as phytocannabinoids.
All mammals have an endocannabinoid system that is nourished by phytocannabinoids. Non-cannabis plants that contain phytocannabinoids include chocolate (Theobroma cacao), black pepper (Piper nigrum), coneflower (Echinacea), among others. Humans naturally produce cannabinoids Anandamide and 2-Arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG).
Delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the only phytocannabinoid that is proven to create a psychoactive effect. In the raw plant state, the THC molecule is confined within a different non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid known as THCA.
Our PurCBD oil is non-psychoactive and contains other phytocannabinoids found in the industrial hemp plant including but not limited to phytocannabidiol, which have been reported to have anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, and anti-seizure properties.
When phytocannabidiol is derived from the seeds and stalks of an industrial hemp plant it is legal in all 50 states, just like any other essential oil such as lavender or peppermint.
Why do we sell it?
We decided to make and sell CBD oil after we witnessed firsthand the incredible results our own pets experienced with the product. Here is a link to the blog that we wrote about our first CBD experience with our founding pet.
Do you ship internationally?
We do not ship any Hemp Products internationally, we ship our other products to most countries and international shipping options will be seen at checkout.

- Apply the drops to a treat or meal.
- Apply the drops to the water bowl (use this as a last resort because the oil drop could get splashed out of the bowl).

It takes approximately 20 minutes for the CBD oil to enter the bloodstream and about 6 hours to exit. Depending on your pet, however, some effects might be subtle and take more time to notice. MUST-READ Blog: Can You Mix CBD with Other Pet Supplements?
Here is the direct link to the planner:
Does PurCBD+ ever replace prescription medications?
It depends on your pet and the medicine being used. There have been many examples of dogs being more receptive to PurCBD than traditional medications, especially with anti-seizure, anti-inflammatory, and anti-anxiety medications. Always check with your veterinarian before starting, stopping, or adjusting the dosage of any prescription medication. Many drugs, especially anti-seizure medications, must be weaned off slowly or else deadly withdrawal symptoms can occur.
Does PurCBD+ help with anxiety?
We have had many pet owners report success in using CBD for anxiety. Check out this article for more information.
Can PurCBD treat cancer?
Unfortunately, because this is a supplement we're not allowed to make medical claims regarding its use as a treatment or cure. However, this is the exact reason we began using this product on our own pets. (Our founding pets were diagnosed with cancer; one was 16 and the other was 8.) We used phytocannabinoidas palliative care for appetite and pain management.
Is PurCBD safe to use with pregnant pets?
While we are not aware of any specific issues regarding using PurCBD with pregnant pets. However, we must always advise that you consult your veterinarian before starting or stopping any medication or supplement with pregnant pets.
Does PurCBD+ help with arthritis?
Many pet owners have used PurCBD+ solely for that reason.
What about seizures?
We wish we could give you definitive yes or no answer to this question; we know how terrible of an ordeal a pet seizure is to experience. Since this is a supplement we can't make medical claims, but we do have pet owners using our product specifically for this purpose.
Is PurCBD safe to take long term?
All available evidence indicates that long term use of PurCBD+ causes no side effects; however, PurCBD+ has only truly been available for pets for a couple years. The most common reason our customers cite for using CBD is to replace prescription drugs that have a known history of long term side effects. Always consult your veterinarian and use our dosing chart/schedule to coordinate the use of dietary supplements like PurCBD with prescription medications.
If I stop using PurCBD+, should I be worried about any withdrawal symptoms?
There are no known withdrawals from stopping PurCBD+. However, if you are using PurCBD+ to treat seizures we recommend asking a veterinarian before making any adjustments to your pet’s medications or supplements.
How dare you people drug your pets! PurCBD+ = hemp AND hemp = pot AND pot = evil so therefore, PurCBD+ = evil!
Yes, unfortunately we get this type of question frequently from internet trolls! The first misunderstanding here is rooted in thinking that hemp is the same as pot. Hemp is a form of the cannabis plant that does NOT have the psychoactive THC chemical; i.e., you cannot get high off hemp. To be considered hemp, a cannabis plant must have less than 0.3% THC. A good analogy is to compare grape juice to wine; when grape juice ferments, it becomes alcohol. If it doesn’t contain alcohol, it’s just grape juice. Your dog can no more get high from our PurCBD+ or hemp than you could get drunk by drinking grape juice.
Where is the evidence? These stories are just anecdotal.
The evidence, both anecdotal and clinical, overwhelmingly supports the effectiveness of PurCBD. Here is a link to more detail regarding clinical evidence:
Additionally, our own personal experiences and the experiences of countless customers form a body of evidence that cannot be ignored. We have found that 97.4% of customers have strong positive feedback. Less than 1% of customers have any form of negative feedback and for them we have a 30-day money back guarantee :)
