PurOtic™ Dog Ear Cleaner: A Safer Solution for Preventing Infections
If your dog is constantly shaking their head, whining, and scratching at irritated ears endlessly, you’re not alone. An estimated 20% of dogs have some form of ear disease. It’s one of the top reasons for unexpected and expensive vet visits.
You’ve probably tried cleaning their ears with cotton balls and standard solutions, only to have the problem return a few weeks later. This frustrating cycle happens because most ear cleaners can’t reach the source of the issue: the deep, L-shaped part of your dog’s ear canal where moisture and debris get trapped.
To really prevent ear infections, you need a solution that can safely clean the entire canal without causing irritation. That’s precisely why we created the PurOtic™ Dog Ear Cleaner. We designed its patented shape and gentle, effective formula to solve this problem once and for all.
Why Do Dogs Get Ear Infections?
If it feels like your dog is constantly battling ear issues, it’s not your fault. Their unique anatomy and certain lifestyle factors make them naturally prone to problems. Understanding these root causes is the first step to effective prevention.
- L-shaped ear canal: Unlike a human’s straight ear canal, a dog’s has a sharp 90-degree turn. This L-shape creates a perfect trap for moisture, wax, and debris to get stuck deep inside. This creates an ideal breeding ground for yeast and bacteria.
- Breed and ear shape: Your dog’s ear shape also plays a role. A study from the Royal Veterinary College found that breeds with floppy ears, like Basset Hounds and Cocker Spaniels, have 1.76 times the risk of infection compared to breeds with erect ears because the ear flap seals in warmth and moisture.
- Excess moisture: As any owner of a water-loving dog knows, moisture is a major risk factor. Whether from swimming, bathing, or living in a humid climate, water that gets trapped in the ear canal can quickly lead to an infection, often called “swimmer’s ear.”
- Underlying allergies: Many recurrent ear infections are actually a secondary problem. According to PetMD, the primary cause is often underlying allergies to food or things in the environment. These allergies cause inflammation inside the ear, which then allows an infection to take hold.

How Our Dog Ear Cleaner Helps Prevent Infections
We created the PurOtic™ Dog Ear Cleaner because our dog, Maximus, suffered from chronic ear infections, and traditional cleaners couldn’t reach the source of the issue deep in his ear canal.
The biggest challenge in cleaning a dog’s ears is their anatomy. We solved this by inventing a patented applicator with a soft, flexible silicone tip. It’s long enough to deliver the dog ear cleaning solution exactly where it needs to go, while the soft tip bends for your pet’s safety and comfort, removing the usual guesswork.
PurOtic™ Ear Cleaner
Many ear cleaners use alcohol, which can sting and dry out already irritated skin. Our PurOtic™ ear cleaner is different. It’s a natural dog ear cleaner that’s completely alcohol-free.
Instead, it uses a clinical-grade emulsifier called docusate sodium to gently break down stubborn wax. We offer two strengths to fit your pet’s needs.
- Regular strength (for dogs and cats)
This is our maintenance formula, perfect for routine cleaning. It’s extremely gentle and contains soothing, aromatic ingredients like Oregon grape extract, aloe vera, and lemongrass to help penetrate and break up tough gunk for a deeper clean.
- Extra strength (for dogs only)
We designed this formula for dogs with very dirty ears or those prone to frequent issues. It adds the powerful, natural cleansing properties of 1% tea tree oil to help address the buildup of yeast and bacteria.
PurOtic™ Ear Dryer
Liquid cleaners are effective but leave moisture behind. Instead of using stinging alcohol, we created this separate, second step.
The PurOtic™ Ear Dryer is an alcohol-free powder that uses food-grade diatomaceous earth to safely absorb any leftover moisture after cleaning, which is important for preventing future infections.
How to Clean Your Dog’s Ears Safely with PurOtic™
One of the best things about the PurOtic™ system is how simple it is to use. Here’s how to clean dog ears safely and effectively in just a few steps.
- Shake the bottle well: Before each use, give the bottle a good shake to make sure the formula is properly mixed.
- Insert the tip and squeeze the trigger: Gently place the soft silicone tip into your dog’s ear. You don’t need to force it deep into the ear canal. Pull the trigger handle 1 to 3 times to release the solution.
- Massage the base of the ear: This is important. Gently massage the base of your dog’s ear for about 20 to 30 seconds. If you can hear a soft “squishing” sound, you’re doing it perfectly! This helps the solution break up the wax and debris deep inside.
- Let them shake: Step back and let your dog shake their head. This is how they clear all the dislodged gunk out of the ear canal. It can get a little messy, so it’s a good idea to do this in a bathroom or outside.
- (Optional) Follow with the ear dryer: If you’re using the two-step system, wait a minute for your dog to finish shaking, then repeat the process with the PurOtic™ ear dryer to absorb any remaining moisture.
- Wipe the outer ear: Use a cotton ball or a soft wipe to gently clean away any wax or solution from the part of the ear you can easily see.
Note: Never use cotton swabs (like Q-tips) to clean the inside of your dog’s ear canal. They can easily push debris further down, or worse, damage your dog’s sensitive eardrum. Our ear cleaner’s soft tip is designed to be the only tool you need to get the job done safely.
Tips for Preventing Ear Infections
Using our dog ear cleaner is an important step, but a few simple habits can make a huge difference in keeping your dog’s ears healthy for the long term.
One of the best habits you can build is to always dry your dog’s ears after swimming or bathing, as moisture is the number one cause of infections. A quick, gentle wipe with a cotton ball is all it takes.
It’s also a good idea to perform a quick ear check once a week, especially if you have a floppy-eared breed. Just take a peek and a sniff to check for any redness or unusual odors, as catching a problem early helps you treat it before it worsens.
Finally, since many ear infections are a secondary symptom of underlying allergies, work with your vet to manage those issues. A calmer immune system often leads to healthier, less inflamed ears.
Painful ear infections don’t start on the surface. To stop them, you need a cleaner that reaches deep into your dog’s L-shaped ear canal, where moisture and debris tend to hide.
That’s exactly what the PurOtic™ Dog Ear Cleaner was engineered to do.
Its patented soft applicator safely delivers our gentle, alcohol-free formula deep into the ear canal to break down wax and debris where infections start. It provides a thorough clean that other droppers simply can’t match.
Don’t just wipe away the gunk you can see. Give your dog the complete, preventative clean they deserve and save yourself the stress and expense of another vet visit.
